EUROPE PLAY-OFFS - MATCHDAY 1: KVO - STANDARD LUIK 6 - 2

The game started at a high tempo with a goal from Muleka that was disallowed for offside. The home team responded almost immediately with a shot from Hjulsager that whizzed over. D'Arpino tried it from the sixteen but Bodart saved in a corner. Sakala was brought down in the box after a dribble. The ref initially whistled for a penalty kick but after intervention by VAR the party was cancelled. On the half hour Amallah tested the fists of Hubert and in the switch the infiltrating Kvasina slid the ball under Bodart (1-0). The second Oostende goal had a brilliant preparation and ditto finish. Hjulsager saw and served Bätzner in a masterly way, and our young German knew no mercy with the visiting goalie (2-0). Theate also scored just before half time when he beat Bodart with a header (3-0).  The man at the scoreboard could not follow because on the other side there was also scoring. Standard responded with a header by Muleka (3-1). The Rouches made it a game again after a goal by Carcela (3-2).  Just before the referee whistled for half-time, Sakala saw a goal disallowed for offside.

The coast boys started the second half with a small bonus after an exciting first half. The people from Liège had to go on with 10 after Hendry was brought down by Carcela. Our Scottish star man couldn't continue and had to be substituted by Capon. The fourth goal from Oostende was of magnificent Danish origin. Our captain got hold of the ball and calmly slammed the ball past a bewildered Bodart (4-2).. The visitors didn't give up but couldn't embarrass Hubert anymore. Sakala didn't have a great night as again a goal was disallowed by VAR. The substitutes did score. Ndicka slammed in a cross from Vandendriessche (5-2), after which Boonen also scored a goal (6-2).
