JPL - GAME DAY 2: KV OOSTENDE - KV MECHELEN 2 - 1

Compared to the lost away game at Anderlecht, Vanderhaeghe changed his starting eleven, forced or not. The suspended Katelaris was replaced by the debuting Urhoghide. Musayev and Ndicka moved to the bench and Sakamoto was injured. D'Haese, Albanese and Bätzner came into the squad.
The first chance of the game was for Shved who decided on Hubert. On the other side, Coucke was able to prevent further disaster in the last instance after Mechel's fumble. The next chance was again for the Coastal Boys but now the visiting goalie saved Bätzner's shot. On the other side Schoofs was unable to punish a hesitation in the Oostende defence. Oostend's opening goal came just past the quarter hour mark when Atanga was sent into the box. The Ghanaian left Coucke no chance (1-0). First the goal was disallowed for offside but after intervention of the VAR the goal counted. Ambrose proved to be a scourge for the Mechelen defense because after an individual action he kicked just in front. The next two chances were again for the Coastal Boys, but Ambrose and Bätzner were just unable to finish. On the other side the Malines tried their luck with timid attempts that caused little danger. Hubert made his move on attempts by Schoofs and Storm. Bolingoli had the best chance for Mechelen but he hit the side netting. Instead of the equalizer, KVO scored its second goal after a beautiful changeover. Medley intercepted a Mechelse attack and served Bätzner, who found Atanga in front of goal (2-0).

The first noteworthy fact after the break was the red cardboard for Albanese, following intervention by VAR. The visitors hit the gas pedal with an immediate chance for Oum Gouet, who popped wide. The home team countered with a drive from Ambrose who continued to cause danger. With 20′ on the clock the visiting coach threw all his assets on the table with 3 substitutions. This resulted in the connecting goal through Peyre (2-1). Vanderhaeghe reacted and brought 2 fresh forces on the mat with Wylin and Dewaele. The substitute Hernandez kicked in the hands of Hubert. The Mechelen players took plenty of risks, which led to a goal from Gueye on the other side, but his goal was disallowed for offside. In the absolute end of the game Gueye appeared in front of the goalie again but this time Coucke saved with a foot reflex.
