KAA GENT - KV OOSTENDE 1 - 1

A battling Ostend could not hold on to an early lead but still grabbed an important point at the Ghelamco Arena after a collectively strong game.
Before the game against Gent, the Ostend coach gave confidence to the team that was making things difficult for Antwerp.
Markus Pflanz's troops didn't come to Ghent like tourists, and they showed their skills early on in the match. After a scrimmage in front of goal, McGeehan saw his effort hobble just wide of the wrong side of the post. The next chance was a good one. After a nice and quick counter attack D'Haese rushed past pillar Godeau who found Ambrose in front of goal. The French striker had no mercy on Bolat and kicked the ball into the goal via a Gent defender (0-1).. Just after the quarter hour mark, the home team threatened for the first time but De Sart cracked his shot. The next chance was again for De Sart, but now his free kick went a metre wide of the Ostend goal. Via the speedy Samoise the home team tried to harass the Ostend left flank. Castro-Montes found Hubert in his way after he had been played free by Samoise. Just past the half hour mark, the Kustboys escaped an equalizer when Bruno hit a Hjulsager cross on the outside of the post. With half-time in sight, Bätzner kicked a free kick into the fists of Bolat.

The Oostende coach provided more security on the left flank and brought in Atanga for Ndicka at halftime. The first noteworthy attempt was by Hjulsager, but the ex-KVO player kicked the ball towards the empty stands, after which Bruno saw his place ball go wide. After fooling around with his defender, Hjulsager placed the ball just wide of the cage. The visitors responded through Ambrose but McGeehan's shot waved off. It was Samoise who found the opening in the Ostend defense. With a cool cross he reached Hjulsager who headed the equalizer past a grabbing Hubert (1-1). Just like against Antwerp, the Ostend goalie played a strong game. The brand new father made sure that an active Hjulsager could not score a second time. The last chance of the game was for the Albanian substitute after which the referee whistled the game to a close.
