KV OOSTENDE - KRC GENK 0 - 4
A fiercely battered Oostende was no match for a strong Genk, who scored 4 goals.
For the game against KRC Genk, Blessin had to work on his already battered squad again. Remarkable was the fact that the bench besides McGeehan and Tanghe was filled with youngsters like Coninckx, Brock and Boufath. Stock, the coach of Genk could not call on Onuachu but Lucumi and Arteaga returned in the starting line-up.
In a desolate Diaz Arena, Genk started the game energetically with an immediate opening goal. The left flank was rolled up easily and Ugbo only had to tap in (0-1).. From the first goal it was one-way traffic towards Hubert. The next chance was for Thorstvedt, but he kicked just wide. The 0-2 followed quite quickly when Ito was sent into the alley and he had no trouble at all beating Hubert (0-2).. The brave home side tried to set the pace but they barely got to the visiting sixteen. Ito saw his second of the evening disallowed when offside was spotted. The Oostende defence was too slow for the Limburg attackers as Arteaga made a quick changeover to put the 0-3 on the board (0-3).. Shortly before the break Blessin substituted Patoulidis for the reappearing Tanghe.
After the break McGeehan replaced D'Haese after a long period of inactivity. He started the game brightly and got a yellow card after a too enthusiastic action. After a disappointing first half the Kustboys wanted to make something of it but the first chance was for Thorstvedt who found Hubert in his way. At the other end the visiting goalie had to work for the first time on an effort by McGeehan. After a nice combination in the box, Ambrose was denied by Vandervoordt. Young Wylin showed his mettle on his flank with some tasteful action. Ugbo had a great chance after an Ito corner, but the striker headed the ball through an Eastern leg into the corner. At the other end Ambrose tried his luck from long range, but the striker cracked his shot wide. Hrosovsky made the visitors' score even higher when he left Hubert without a chance with a slide (0-4).. Thorstvedt was sent off early after a wild tackle on Bätzner. Hubert, the outstanding player, saved the home team from a forfeit in the end.
