KV OOSTENDE - OH LEUVEN 1 - 3
A strong-willed but underpowered Ostend loses the six-point game to an efficient Leuven.
For the six-point game against OHL, Markus Pflanz had only positive selection issues. Dutchman Kjell Scherpen made his debut under the crossbar. Marc Brys, the visiting coach put the slightly injured Schrijvers on the bench as a precaution.
The first chance was for the visitors but Scherpen reacted alertly to an attempt by Mercier, after which Maertens also found our goalie in his way. After 20′ the home team threatened for the first time with a shot from D'Arpino that went over. Both McGeehan and D'Haese found Runarsson in their way. On the other side, Mercier saw his place ball go wide. It was the visitors who took the lead. A cross from the left flank was kicked in by Shengelia across. (0-1). The home team was not upset and went in search of the equalizer but it was the people of Leuven who took a small lead into the break.
Both teams started the second half unchanged. The Leuveners doubled their lead fairly early on. After a quick counter attack the Ostend defence was played out of context. Kaba had to tap in at the far post (0-2).. After a corner kick, McGeehan had the chance for the connecting goal but he cracked his shot. D'Arpino scored again from a stoppage time. Like the previous week, his free kick ended in the store hook (1-2). The home team smelled blood and pressed the visitors back in their own half, but there were no real chances. It was the players from Leuven who increased the score. Suleiman simply outmuscled his opponent and placed the ball in the far corner (1-3). The Coastal Boys were no longer able to respond and lose the six-point game to an efficient OH Leuven
