After a hard-fought match, the Coastal Boys extended their stay in the Jupiler Pro League in the absolute final stages.
Shortly before kick-off of the game against Seraing, Jäkel dropped out, giving Medley a starting place. Up front, Ambrose and Gueye had to take care of the Ostend goals. Garcia, the visiting coach, had no selection problems and was able to field a strong team for the important game at the coast.
The home team started the game with a deficit when Jallow turned around Scherpen and deposited the ball into the empty goal (0-1). The Coastal Boys responded with a deflected kick from D'Arpino and a shot that disappeared via a visiting leg into a corner. The next chance was again for the home team but Gueye's shot disappeared via a Liège leg into the corner. Just before, the injured D'Arpino had to be substituted by his compatriot Koziello. Just past the half-hour mark, the home team equalized when Cissé deviated an Ambrose cross into his own goal (1-1).. Through its fast front line, the Liège players remained very dangerous in the changeover. Mikautadze fooled the home defence but his shot went wide. In the last minute Scherpen had to beat a corner kick out of his goal.
The ball possession in the early stages of the second half was for KVO but the goal fell on the other side. A center shot was badly cleared in the own sixteen. The ball fell at the feet of Mikautadze who had no mercy on Scherpen (1-2).. The home team responded via a brilliant effort from Capon that shattered on the goal wood. The devil was in the tail of the match. After the VAR intervened, Boterberg pointed to the spot because Cissé had touched the ball with his hand. There was a lot of commotion from the visitors afterwards, including a red card for someone from the sports staff. Gueye let all that hustle and bustle go over him and sent Dietsch to the other corner (2-2), after which Boterberg whistled for the end.
With this point, the Coastal Boys extend their stay in the Jupiler League. Next week Vanderhaeghe and co can travel to far away Eupen in a relaxed manner.
