The Coastal Boys grab a point against the Canaries after a chanceless game and move one step closer to retention.
For the game against STVV, Vanderhaeghe could not count on the injured Duncan and Ndicka moved to the bench. Atanga and Urhoghide took their places. Hollerbach, the visiting coach could not count on the suspended Leister.
The first chance of the game was for the visitors after an unnecessarily given away corner kick. Fortunately for the Coastal Boys, Hara headed Brüls' corner wide. The home team's response was not long in coming. After a nice cross from the active Sakamoto, Gueye kicked the ball high over on the turn. The visitors caused mischief when a cross from Hara just failed to reach Hashioka. Konate stabbed Dony in the alley but Capon was able to prevent further mischief. Just before Van Damme blew for halftime, McGeehan had a good opportunity after a deep pass. However, our Northern Irishman failed to get the ball under control allowing a visiting defender to clear.
The first chance after the break was for the visitors. After a sharp cross Durkin headed the ball past Scherpen but also wide of the empty goal. The home team responded with a cross from Rocha Santos. The home team took control and looked for the visiting goal. The next chance was again for the coastal boys but Atanga decided over whereupon Rocha Santos did the same to him. Fortes headed a corner kick into the hands of the visiting goalkeeper who a bit later saved brilliantly on a shot by Rocha Santos. Both teams seemed satisfied with the result as the match gradually faded out. With this point, Vanderhaeghe's troops come closer to preservation.
