KV OOSTENDE - STANDARD LUIK 1- 0
The coastal team took an important step towards preservation after a well-deserved win against a swelling Standard Liege.
Yves Vanderhaeghe positioned the tall Scherpen under the crossbar. Ndicka and Capon came off the bench and Gueye had to take care of the goals. For the visitors, Elsner could not count on the injured Amallah and Laifis, while Sissako moved to the bench. Bastien, Dragus and Dussenne were their replacements.
The home team started the game eagerly with after 10′ a shot from Gueye that whizzed past and a blast from McGeehan that went over. On the other side, our goalie was a jobless goalie as the Liege players rarely came close to him. The deserved Oostend lead came after a misunderstanding in the visiting defense. Rocha Santos knew no mercy and put the home team ahead (1-0).. Before halftime, McGeehan, Gueye, Sakamoto and Rocha Santos had chances to count the Rouches out for good but efficiency was lacking.
The first threat after the break was for the home team but Gueye kicked over and on the other side KVO escaped the equalizer after Cafaro decided on the post. Gueye came close to making it 2-0 but tapped a cross from close range just over. The home team ran out of problems and kept the three points at home.
