KVO takes defender from Arsenal

KV Oostende has strengthened its position with the Englishman Zech Medley. The 20-year-old central defender comes over from Arsenal and is considered a great talent in British football. He signs a contract until 2025 with an option for an extra year.

Zech Medley went through the youth ranks of Chelsea before rival Arsenal plucked him out at the age of 16. At Arsenal, he was a star player and captain in the youth series and he also trained with the A-team. In 2018, as an 18-year-old, he even contested two games in the Europa League. He was also part of the Gunners' selection against Standard. Last season he was successively loaned out to FC Gillingham (League One) and FC Kilmarnock (Scottish First Division).

Gauthier Ganaye: "Zech had been on our radar for a long time. He was one of our main targets and I am therefore delighted that we have succeeded in bringing him to Oostende. With his 1.95m, his speed, forward defending and quality on the ball, he fits perfectly into our game system. I am looking forward to seeing Zech make progress within our team."

Zech MedleyI'm happy that the deal with KVO has been done. The Belgian league has evolved tremendously in recent seasons and it's a stepping stone to the bigger leagues. Just look at Jack Hendry who relaunched his career here. I'm signing a contract for four seasons here, which is a clear vote of confidence from the KVO board. I'm looking forward to getting to know my teammates and playing my first game as soon as possible."
