Preview:

Saturday afternoon the Coastboys receive Beerschot in their own Diaz Arena. For both teams, this meeting is very important as they both want to break out of the negative spiral of defeats.

Beerschot had a dramatic start to the season as they are 1 out of 21 in last place.
On game day 7, Antwerp lost the important home game with 0-1 against STVV. A defeat which brought the team deeper into trouble. This season Beerschot only managed to get a point at Gent. All other games were lost.

Since Wednesday, Peter Maes is no longer coach. After the defeat against STVV he was thanked for his services, together with some of his staff. In anticipation of finding a successor, Marc NoƩ will do the honours.

Maes lost with the following selection against his former team: Vanhamel, Van den Bergh, Frans, Dom, Holzhauser, Noubissi, Soumare, Bourdin, Pietermaat, Coulibaly and Lemos. Dom and Lemos were injured and were replaced by Halaimia and Konstantopoulos. Deep into the second half Maes tried in vain to change the course of action by bringing on Vaca and Shankland.

Despite the enviable last place, Beerschot has a lot of footballing qualities. There is of course the Austrian Raphael Holzhauser, who can decide a game with a pass or a free kick. Other good players include Noubissi, Van Den Bergh, Frans, Bourdin and Pietermaat.

The board of Beerschot hopes the dismissal of Peter Maes will have a shock effect. Antwerp absolutely need to win to avoid losing touch with the direct competitors.

Last season KVO lost 1-2 against Beerschot on the first matchday. Noubissi scored the 2 Antwerp goals, while Vandendriessche scored the only goal for Oostende.
