EUROPE PLAY-OFFS - GAME DAY 3: KAA GENT - KV OOSTENDE 2 - 1

Match report

Hendry was not fit to play and was replaced by the young German Jäkel. The first chance was for the home team, but Yaremchuk was blocked by Tanghe. The first real danger for Ghent led immediately to the opening goal. Castro-Montes found Yaremchuk and he slammed the ball across the corner past Hubert, who was in no danger (1-0).. The visitors responded with a harmless punt from Vandendriessche and a dangerous cross from Hjulsager that Kvasina just couldn't reach. The home team was the most dangerous, but Yaremchuk failed to put a stop to the game before half time.

At half-time Blessin intervened and brought Boonen on the pitch in stead of Tanghe. The visitors took the initiative but it was the home team that was first to prove dangerous. Hubert had a lot of trouble with a low kick from Bezus. The home team extended their lead when ex-KVO player Godeau headed a cross from Odjidja past Hubert (2-0). The visitors responded almost immediately.  Bolat missed a cross from Sakala. Hjulsager kicked the rebound hard into the roof of the goal (2-1). Shortly after the goal, substitute Boonen dribbled past a number of defenders but his effort ended in the side netting. On the other side Odjidja drove straight into Hubert's hands. The coastal boys pushed the Ghent side back, but the Oostende dominance did not result in a deserved equaliser.
