KVO HONORS ARNO ON GAME SHIRTS
KV Oostende is also honoring honorary citizen of Oostende and singer Arno. On Saturday against Club Brugge, 'Oh la la la, c'est magnifique' will be printed on the chest of the players' shirts, an ode to Arno and his TC Matic and a reference to the goaltune of KVO.
The song title will also have a place on the shirts next season. Arno himself can't be there on Saturday but his brother Peter will receive a personalized shirt for his brother at kick-off.
What few people know ... Arno was in his younger years not an undeserving footballer. He even played in the youth teams of AS Ostend, the predecessor of KVO. His international music career prevented him from attending many matches of KV Oostende, but he always kept a close eye on the results.
During the crowdfunding organized by supporters and former players two years ago, Arno gave away an autographed record. It was eventually sold for a whopping € 865. When his 'Crystal Ship' mural at the City Hall was inaugurated, he also proudly wore a real retro KVO scarf around his neck.
Although Arno has been living in Brussels for a long time now, Ostend and the soccer in the city have always been close to his heart. After his successful farewell concerts in the Kursaal and his 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the Ostend Film Festival, KV Ostend is now giving him a well-deserved tribute.
"Despite the fact that Arno unfortunately cannot be there himself on Saturday, we still ask the fans of both KVO and Club Brugge to pay him a beautiful tribute with thunderous applause. And we hope that "Oh La la la" will resound in the Diaz Arena many more times, starting Saturday against Club Brugge."
Afterwards, the shirts of the KVO - Club Brugge match will be auctioned online. The proceeds will go in full to 'Kom op tegen Kanker'.
