Preview:

Friday evening the Kustboys travel for the second time in a row to the Vurige Stede where they will play Standard Liege. Provided they win, Blessin and co can do excellent business in the league and who knows, they might even become the leaders for the first time since 2015.

Our next opponent started the season quietly but after 4 games has 7 points and is on a shared 3the place. The people from Liège are only 2 points behind leader KV Oostende.

A striking statistic is the fact that Leye's team could not yet win in their own stade Maurice Dufrasne. They drew against Genk (1-1) and lost heavily against Antwerp (2-5), with 5 goals from Michael Frey among others. On the road, Leye and co. achieved 6 out of 6 with wins against Zulte Waregem and Beerschot.

According to annual tradition, the team of Standard chairman Venanzi is very busy in terms of transfers.
Vanheusden, Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Jans, Cop, Avenatti, Oulare and Shamir, among others, went elsewhere. Jean-Francois Gillet ended his active career with the Rouches.

In terms of incoming transfers, the Liège squad hired attacking midfielder Hamza Rafia from Juventus for one season with an option to buy. The Tunisian played in the U23 team of Juventus. Earlier, the Norwegian left-footed striker Aron Dönnum came over from Valerenga. Behind the scenes there is also work done on the arrival of Daouda Peeters.

Last season KVO lost in the regular league after a late goal by Dussenne with the smallest score of the Liège side. In the Europe Play-offs KVO won convincingly with 1-3 on the banks of the Meuse. The goal was then scored by Michel-Ange Balikwisha (Standard). For KVO, the departing Vandendriessche (2x) and Boonen (1x) scored.
